Giving Back This Season

As the holiday time approaches, we are reminded of everything we have to be thankful for. It is the perfect time to reflect and see how we can all give back to our community. Supporting local charities allows us to directly impact the lives of our fellow community members and fosters a sense of unity that continues long after the holiday season is gone. So, as we embark on this Thanksgiving and Holiday season, here are a few local organizations you can consider donating to or volunteering at to give back to your community.

Treasure Coast Food Bank

Treasure Coast Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization on Florida’s Treasure Coast and the only Food Bank in our four-county region – Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties. They work tirelessly to help families and individuals in need by providing them with nutritious food, hope, and dignity. They will host the 9th Annual Pack the House Event on October 20, 2023, and October 21, 2023. Volunteers will be helping to build holiday meal boxes for children, families, and seniors who are facing hunger. Holiday meal boxes come with all the holiday favorites like mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, vegetables, and more! Learn more and register on Stophunger.org.

Turkey Trot at Tradition

The Turkey Trot at Tradition is a 5K race run/walk charity that benefits New Horizons of the Treasure Coast & Okeechobee and Treasure Coast Food Bank. The race is a family-friendly race where you can give back while gathering with the community while getting exercise. In the first four years, they raised over $70,000 for local charities. Palm Beach County Food Bank

Palm Beach County Food Bank is focused on fighting hunger in Palm Beach County through five programs – Partner Marketplace, Pop-Up Farmer’s Market, Benefits Outreach, Childhood Hunger Initiatives, and Groceries for Seniors. They support close to 200 partner agencies in Palm Beach County with food, programs, resources, and services. The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program

The Salvation Army helps put new clothes and toys under the tree for 1 million children across the United States who usually have to go without Christmas gifts. Anonymous donors adopt little “angels” in an expanding Christmas tradition that makes the season brighter for both the gift giver and receiver. Learn more about this program at Tsamm.org/angeltree.

House of Hope

House of Hope offers seasonal programs to assist families with special expenses related to needing back-to-school supplies, Thanksgiving meals, Christmas gifts, and family meals. You can also support them by donating to one of their three thrift store locations in Martin County. You can learn more about their seasonal programs, volunteering opportunities, and how to give at Hohmartin.org.

American Red Cross- Holiday for Heros

Every holiday season, the South Florida Region of the American Red Cross hosts its annual Holiday for Heroes initiative to care for and honor our military heroes. You can partner with the South Florida Red Cross to donate items for holiday care packages distributed to active-duty military members deployed around the world and local veterans in hospitals or nursing homes.
